Spring Equinox

Today marks the spring equinox, the point where night and day hang in balance and we move into spring time.
I love the work of Philip Carr-Gomm and in one of his tea with a druid episodes he describes the spring equinox as a push me pull you time of year and I cant think of a better way to describe it. The days are lengthening, new growth is returning to the land and the days are a little warmer making me want to explore, swim and spend long days out in the garden again, yet, there are still days where it is cold and wintry and I feel drawn back into winter hibernation. Shaking off the remnants of winter can take a little while, especially here in the far North. On these days I plan my garden, sew seeds, read, write and nurture the plans I wish to take forward into the coming year.
It really is a time of year to balance between two states of being, allowing a slow awakening of self as we emerge back into the world after winter hibernation but also allowing ourselves to take this in stages giving plenty of space to nurture ourselves and plan and gain strength for the coming year. In nature there are both things going on, a push of fresh new growth and a nurturing of that which has still to come. I think there is also a balancing happening within ourselves as we scrabble to find equilibrium between our positive and negative aspects, perhaps the answer to finding balance is to accept that each aspect of self is actually a double edged blade, neither positive or negative rather each aspect has both within it.
A blessed ostara to you all
