Transitions

As we move towards the spring equinox, where everything is held in balance, I'm reflecting on not only this transitional and liminal time in the year but on my own inner transitional journey.
It never ceases to amaze me how my journey often reflects the cycles of nature, crescendoing to a point at the various sacred points in the wheel of the year and bringing into my life whatever lesson or understanding is needed most for my inner growth.
The equinox symbolises balance, when the days and night are of equal length on both sides of the equator and in the northern hemisphere it is the first day of spring. This year the equinox will fall on March 20th.
We have had a lot of snow here in Rogart over the past week or so, blanketing the land and slowing the forward movement towards spring.
As the snow melts it feels like a cleansing, muck and dirt and melt water all sinking down into the earth. Snow is essential to the health of our land in how it aids the breaking down of the old dead remnants of last years growth, then, as it thaws, slowly seeping down into the earth replenishing underground springs and feeding the land for the renewed growth to come, much as the integration of our own experiences and cleansing ourselves of outworn beliefs and patterns aids in fertilising the new growth within ourselves.
My first seeds sprouted this week. Tiny shoots carrying the promise of tomorrows harvest, reminding me that spring is just around the corner and that my life is full of new fresh growth that has been quickening under the surface since imbolc on the 2nd of February.
No matter the season there is always something happening in nature, although it might just be hidden under the surface waiting on the right conditions to begin to sprout and flourish. I find it fascinating watching this symbiosis of inner self reflected in nature and do my best to move with her cycles using ritual and mindful awareness to guide my process.
